Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop is a warm, comforting space tucked between pages, one that quietly speaks to every reader who has ever dreamed of owning a little bookstore of their own. The title itself drew me in, and after reading just a few chapters, I knew this book held something special for me.

At the heart of the story is Yeong-ju (the bookshop owner), a woman who chooses to leave behind her conventional job to chase a long-held dream i.e. opening a cozy bookshop. Her journey is not a fairytale. It's real, raw, and full of small but meaningful struggles: getting people to walk into the store, curating books that speak to different lives, and slowly building a community where stories become bridges.

What I loved most about the book is the tapestry of characters. They are all so beautifully woven into the narrative, each one bringing their own baggage, hopes, and need for solace. And in some way or the other, the bookshop becomes a gentle refuge for them. Yeong-ju’s quiet strength is the way she fosters genuine bonds with her customers , guests and authors without ever being overbearing.

This book reads like a slow, thoughtful walk. It’s a reminder of the quiet joys of building something with intention, of finding meaning in stillness, and of how stories connect us in unexpected ways. If you’re an aspiring bookshop owner or simply someone who finds peace in the smell of books and the hum of a quiet reading corner, this book might just feel like home.
