Adeline knows dark secrets about her mother. The truth is so terrible that she can't even tell her sick father, who loves her mother deeply. The mother takes a job at the lighthouse, and the list of secrets just keeps growing. The girl's entire life, her past, present, and future is tied to her mother, who she's learning from in unexpected ways, at least she claims to be learning as the title suggests.

Developing 6-7 characters in just 28 pages is not a joke, it's a skill and Alice Hoffman has it. This isn't my first book by her, and she once again delivers a powerful story. It's short and to the point, focusing on the importance of standing up for what's right. I read it all in one go and loved it. The story is gripping and thought-provoking, but also a little bit haunting - making it a great read
